How To Get Your Dream Job

It’s not hard to get your dream job, if you know what you are looking for. When you know what you want to do with your life, opportunities will start to present themselves.

It’s the same with most things in life. When someone you know dies, everything on TV,and in the real world, seems to be about death. It’s the same thing when you have a baby. Suddenly the world is full of babies, news about babies and interesting looking prams and other baby stuff. You can’t look anywhere, without seeing (or hearing) a baby. If you are hungry, then the world is all about food. Delicious smells are everywhere and you can’t walk two metres without passing a restaurant, or a billboard, beckoning you in with lovely looking food. If you turn on the TV it will be a cooking programme, or an advert for some super scran.

However, if no one has just died, you aren’t having a baby and you aren’t hungry, then you will hardly notice any of the above. It’s just the way the world works.

To get your dream job, you need to find out what you want to do and then keep your eyes and ears open.Suddenly the world will be full of opportunities, signs and signals. There were there all the time.

Finding out what you want to do is as simple as being honest with yourself. You need to write down and say out loud, what you really want to do with your working day. If you are honest that it will start to make sense. e.g. “I want to be involved with drama, meeting new people, travelling, using my creative skills and be part of a team.” I just put that in Google, adding the words, Job, career. i.e: ‘drama, meeting new people, travelling, creative skills, part of a team, job, career.’

A few ideas came up for useful links to explore e.g: http://www.kent.ac.uk/careers/drama.htm and http://www.youngvic.org/taking-part/careers-in-the-arts/faqs Loads of suggestions in those links including drama therapist, arts administrator, youth and community worker and music journalist. The job that suits YOU will jump out at you, when you put your own list in. You need to be receptive to what you see and then find out more about that career, aiming at the role that most appeals to you. You need to know if it will pay enough, where it will lead to and is the reality the same as the fantasy. If not, start again.

Once you know what you are looking for, it’s just a question of following some simple steps, from writing a good CV/ resume through to knowing how to accept a job offer.

It’s all here in The Career Bible , which Amazon are currently offering at a staggering 90% off the list price.

Good luck.
